Public Statement on the Iran War and the Duty of Our Elected Officials
The unfolding war with Iran is the predictable result of an administration governed by an “us versus them” mindset—one that too often treats the American people as part of the “them.” This administration has relied on preemptive strikes, used negotiations as a tactical façade, and repeatedly obstructed independent reporting. In doing so, it has dismissed legitimate concerns about human life, environmental harm, our moral standing in the world, and the economic well‑being of ordinary Americans.
Today, thousands of U.S. troops are being positioned for a potential invasion—alone, without allied support, without secure supply lines, and without a clearly defined mission. This places our service members in grave danger and reflects a profound failure of civilian leadership and accountability.
America’s historic role as a moral leader and defender of democracy is being eroded. Our troops are increasingly placed at risk by wars of aggression, territorial ambitions, and the absence of meaningful oversight over military decision‑making. Yet many of Florida’s elected officials have responded with either uncritical praise for the administration or troubling silence at a moment when our troops’ lives are on the line.
I call on my fellow Floridians in District 10 to insist that Senators Scott and Moody and Congresswoman Cammack fulfill their constitutional responsibilities. They must demand transparency, accountability, and proper legislative oversight of our civilian military leaders. Our service members—and our nation’s moral integrity—deserve nothing less.
