Affordability
Affordability is more than the price of a house or a tax bill. Affordability is an ecosystem of jobs with income justice, family support, education, and community health. We need leadership that fosters engagement and genuine problem-solving.
We have to recognize that all politics is local, and national political talking points rarely address the daily economic realities facing our families in Senate District 6.
I will work to bring a new paradigm for problem-solving in the public sphere. Affordability is not a single number or policy domain—it is the sum total of how our communities actually thrive.
It cannot be reduced to a scorekeeping game for politicians to win elections; it demands human-centered leadership that protects workers, relieves debt burdens, and builds lasting local wealth.
1. Workforce Dignity & Income Justice
Protecting Jobs from AI Displacement: Champion legislative safeguards like the Work With Dignity Act and The Florida AI Act to ensure artificial intelligence is used to assist human workers rather than eliminate entry-level and career positions.
Family-Sustaining Wages: Support policies that make a family wage a reality, allowing single-income households to live with dignity.
Worker Ownership: Expand employee ownership models, cooperatives, trade guilds, and union rights to prevent corporate exploitation and keep capital in the hands of working families.
2. Family Support & Educational Relief
Direct Family Subsidies: Support pro-family economic policies, including cash subsidies for stay-at-home caregivers, “baby bonuses,” and favorable tax treatment for growing families.
Student Debt Reform: Address the crippling debt burden on young adults and recent graduates by allowing student loans to be dischargeable in bankruptcy and expanding public funding for higher education.
3. Healthcare Affordability & Medical Debt Cancellation
Medical Debt Relief: Advocate for the immediate cancellation of existing medical debt so that a health crisis does not lead to financial ruin.
Controlling Costs: Support federal and state price negotiations on prescription drugs to stop corporate exploitation of captive patients, and oppose hospital mergers that limit community-based care and inflate prices.
4. Housing & Local Community Wealth (Distributism)
Local Land & Housing Access: Support community land trusts, tenant protections against unjust evictions, and neighborhood-scaled housing developments to increase availability and lower prices.
Reforming Punitive Zoning: Reform rigid zoning laws that unfairly target poor and working-class citizens, opening up opportunities for small family businesses, local agriculture, and neighborhood enterprises.
